Mere Mortals

Faith is a much needed virtue to have. For without faith it is impossible to please God ( Hebrews 11:6 ).  Just imagine yourself exhibiting the type of faith that makes God smile.  Is it possible? Can mere mortals really please God by simply believing? Our holy scriptures tell us that it is indeed possible.  However, this type of faith doesn’t always come easily.

Peter is the perfect person to share what we can add to make our faith more pleasing to God.  Peter lost faith when walking on water.  He denied Jesus three times.  Peter also got scolded by Paul for not demonstrating Christianly behavior among believers and leading others astray. Peter knew firsthand the importance of adding to one’s faith.  As he grew in faith he became one of the key people in establishing the church.   I’m sure Peter put a smile on God’s face.

Like an encouraging teacher, the fruit of the Spirit develops and matures us.  We become bolder, stronger, and like Peter, less wishy washy with our actions and beliefs.  Our faith walk is an exciting path which leads us to continually add godly principles that transform us throughout the journey.  Our faith walk also allows us to be a light for others along the path.

5For this very reason, you must make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual  affection with love. For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 5-8).
